Thankfully, Not ‘Left Behind’
Posted by Eric F. Langborgh on 01 Feb 2005 at 08:39 pmIf you are one of the millions of suckers for “Left Behind” theology — shall we call it LaHaye-Lindseyism? — or know someone who is, then a biblical antidote has arrived. Hank Hanegraaff, aka “The Bible Answer Man,” has written a new book entitled, The Last Disciple.
Doug Wilson endorses the book:
The novel is set in the years of the Neronian persecution, leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. …
The book shows, in an entirely believable way, how the words that Jesus spoke over Jerusalem were fulfilled within that generation, and have nothing to do with atomic explosions, killer bees, or Bulgarian antichrists.
I hope this book does well, as today’s mushy evangelicalism could use a good scrubbing of the contemporary hopelessness and escapism that marks the near-Manichean eschatology of the LaHayites.
A few years ago, this nonsense received a much-needed lobotomy from the humorous “Right Behind” series of books. Unfortunately, it didn’t sell widely. Here’s hoping that The Last Disciple will provide a positive, effective, and widely-received answer to the Left Behind idiocy; the brain transplant evangelicalism so desperately needs if it is to be culturally relevant.
