I’ve been enjoying this vacation from blogging, and I can already say it was a wise decision and well worth it. But when I received the following email yesterday from my wife about our son, Samuel, and then got home from work and actually saw what he did, I just had to post this:

Subject: Hi !
Hi sweetie –
Guess what?! Today Samuel wrote his name alllllllllllllll by himself. He just looked at the letters (spelling of his name) that I did on one paper and then he did it all by himself on another paper — while I was upstairs helping Maggie go potty! He kept yelling for me to come down and see what he did. He was so excited. I came down and expected to see some coloring, etc. and there was his NAME. I freaked out!!! I gave him a huge high five and a squeeze and we hung it on the refrigerator!!!!! Verrrrrrrrrry cool. His “E” faces downward and his “m” is so light it’s hard to see, but it’s all there!
I love you!
Bonnie
And here it is, scanned in at full size! (Samuel’s “signature” is at the bottom)
Chalk up this transgression of my announced rest from blogging to a bad case of proud papa. :)

August is traditionally a time for people to take their family vacations. We have none planned. However, I plan on stepping back from blogging for at least the month of August.
This is difficult to do, because the traffic here has grown considerably in recent months. By taking this vacation, I risk losing those “regular visitors.” Still, the fact that has become one of my top concerns goes against my stated reason for this blog, and is one of many reasons I need this time to reassess my priorities in this matter. The goal of this blog is to glorify God through our lives. If my life is too wrapped up in blogging (and by “blogging” I mean not just writing here, but frequenting too many other places on the web) then there is no life truly devoted to the Lord. We worship God in the flesh, Christ the Lord, and so our faith is to be similarly incarnational, lived out in flesh and blood relationships.
Moreover, I have lately lacked the time or the energy, or both. I’m dragging, to be honest. And so, physically and mentally, I need the break. I may drop a very quick note here on occasion, and I hope to post the Lord’s Day Meditations
each Sabbath Eve — but don’t count on it. But other than that, I need this vacation. It will be good for me, good for my family, and hopefully good for this blog when I do return with priorities better sorted out.
Thank you for your prayers and patience. I look forward with hope to “seeing” you all again when I return on a regular, but less frequent, basis.

On this day in 2002, the Lord blessed us with the birth of our first child, Samuel Fraser Langborgh. Already at four years old, Bonnie and I are delighted with how much Samuel has grown and matured.

Happy birthday, little buddy!
